When the scans are clear but the pain keeps coming back, the cause is often biomechanical — in the upper neck. Neuromuscular therapy in Midnapore, Calgary.
Book on Fresha Call 403-614-3526The nerves in our spinal column are very sensitive to pressure and stress. The first vertebra (the Atlas) must be in line with the head, and the second (the Axis) in line below it. When the upper cervical spine is distorted — by injury, whiplash, posture, or stress — it can press on the structures around the brain stem, where vital pain centers exist. The result can be a headache that no painkiller truly reaches, because the cause is not chemical. It is biomechanical.
Treatment at this clinic focuses on exactly that mechanism. Using Neuromuscular Specific Treatment (NST) — gentle soft-tissue manipulation and joint mobilization, never forceful cracking — the work normalizes the position of the atlas mechanism and restores balance to the whole spine. Piotr Gorecki has practiced manual and massage therapy since 1993, and chronic headache and migraine cases are a special focus of the clinic.
Malcolm was 9 years old when a flu virus left him with a constant headache that reached 7 or 8 out of 10 — and stayed for 11 months. Family doctors, chiropractors, a cranial sacral therapist, neurologists and emergency departments found nothing. X-rays, CT scans and an MRI in Toronto, even surgery to insert an intracranial pressure probe, confirmed only that there was no tumor. His mother massaged his head every night for five months. Nothing helped.
“After about 10 minutes of Piotr treating Malcolm, his pain level reduced to about 5 or 6 out of 10. Ten to fifteen more minutes of treatment completely took the pain away! For the first time in 11 months Malcolm was pain-free! Malcolm has continued free of any such headache for over 10 years now!”
— Vicki Stagg, Malcolm's mother (full story in Testimonials)
Many chronic headaches and migraines have a biomechanical component in the upper neck. When the first two vertebrae (the atlas and axis) are distorted, they can stress the nerves around the brain stem, where vital pain centers exist. Treatment works to normalize the position and movement of the upper cervical spine with gentle soft-tissue techniques, relieving that pressure.
The first visit starts with listening: where the pain sits, how long it has been there, and what has already been tried. Assessment is hands-on and happens while we talk. Treatment itself is gentle — a light touch and controlled movement of the first and second vertebrae, not forceful manipulation.
